The Importance of Support

The longer I am in practice, the more firmly I believe in the importance of support for the foot and ankle. I am seeing more patients with pathology related to support problems. These problems are not only for athletes or super active patients, everyone is in need of proper support. If the structures of the feet are unsupported, they are under unneeded stress. This stress will lead to early arthritis and other architectural problems in the feet and ankles. Great support can easily be found in the correct orthotics and shoes. Consumers should be very cautious when purchasing orthotics and shoes, because the overwhelming majority of these devices available today are unsupportive gimmicks. Be sure to test all shoes and orthotics for their rigidity before purchasing.
